Amidst one of the most challenging periods in recent history, Magnolia Wood Fibers opened its doors in the spring of 2021. Fueled by a determination to address the lumber shortage and uncontrolled costs affecting pallet customers, two visionary men, Tommy Boyanton and Kurt Smith, embarked on a mission to find a solution. Together, they formed a partnership and tackled the problem head-on.

For over 20 years, Tommy and his family have been serving the Mississippi area with recycled and new pallets through T B Enterprises, based in Walnut Grove, MS. They built a robust customer base by maintaining reasonable costs, delivering quality products, and providing outstanding service performance. However, the uncontrollable circumstances of the lumber market led to frustrating delays, turning away business, and difficult pricing conversations with valued customers. Faced with unsteady lumber availability and unprecedented price hikes, Tommy resolved to break free from dependence on middlemen and sought alternative solutions.

Tommy’s quest led him to a sawmill for sale in Monticello, MS. Acquiring the sawmill was the first step towards solving the problem. With the sawmill in hand, Tommy knew he needed a steady and reliable supply of logs. In his search for timber resources, he met Kurt Smith of Hardly Able Logging.

Kurt, a lifelong resident of the Brookhaven, MS area, brought his expertise in logging, trucking, and heavy equipment to the partnership. Over the past 30 years, Kurt has developed strong relationships with local loggers and has become an integral part of the lumber industry in the South.

Realizing their shared interests in business development and industry innovations, Tommy and Kurt solidified their partnership by the fall and began implementing their solutions. Since then, they have worked diligently to establish a state-of-the-art facility and assembled a team of talented and dedicated employees.

Today, Magnolia Wood Fibers can produce over 2 million pallets per year, positioning itself as the premier pallet manufacturer in the region.
